Lone Star and Pearl...big favorites at the North Fort Polk (Louisiana) enlisted men's club ca. 1970.
I can remember 3.2 Budd at Fort Dix, and also some 3.2 local beer (whose name escapes me) that was brewed in Philly. I've got a story about beer in the
barracks that I'll relate at a later time. Actually, I've got a few of them, but in this one I was probably the luckiest trainee on Fort Dix!
I don't remember what beers we used to drink in Vietnam...maybe Budd and Schlitz or Old Milwaukee. For several weeks back in 1971, the only beer the
exchange system could get was Carling's Black Label. Must have been around the same time that the only cigarettes they could get were those big, long,
unfiltered Pall Malls.

Sierra Nevada is GREAT beer. The Celebration Ale this year was EXCELLENT!!

Ben, I drink once a week, usually Saturday evening. I really love beer, but I don't want the daily habit.
Ron, I'm pretty sure Lone Star is still very popular in Texas, and maybe Pearl too. I've heard several Texan's talk about Lone Star as the only beer they'll drink if they can get their hands on it. Twodogs, I agree Sierra's Celebration is most excellent. I think it's the same recipe every year so far as I know(?).

Mm, last night I had some Samuel Adams Summer Ale (I think it was an ale?). It reminded me of eating wheat thins, or something. It had a very familiar flavor
that I couldn't put a finger on.

I think i've tried the Summer Ale and wasn't overly ecstatic about it, but it's been a while back so I may have it confused w/ another beer. I
tried Sam Adams White Ale this weekend and it's pretty good. Light & crisp.
